For our next dance we invite a very special artist to a very special venue for a one-off event.
On 31st March we welcome Kai Alcé for an extremely intimate, exclusive UK show.
Born in New York, raised in Detroit and currently residing in Atlanta, Kai Alcé is a leading exponent of Detroit Deep House.
Running his iconic label, ‘NDATL MUZIK’ out of Atlanta, Kai has released music from the likes of Larry Heard, DJ Spinna, Omar-S, Theo Parrish, Alton Miller, Model 500, Derrick May, Marcellus Pittman, Moodymann, Norm Talley, Kyle Hall, Mike Huckaby, Jay Daniel and so many more - the discography reads like a who’s who of Detroit House - with Kai being the thread tying them all together.
His yearly ‘Deep Detroit’ Sessions at Movement Festival have become the stuff of legend, and have formed an integral part of the festival over the past few years, securing Kai’s place within the parthenon of Detroit's musical legacy.
As a producer and a DJ, Kai has a touch quite unlike anyone else - we’re huge fans of his here at RS HQ and his records and productions have been played countless times. It’s an honour to welcome him to the fold for a special dance. In the words of Alcé himself “Life’s good after a session”.
*** THE VENUE *** (important - please read)
We’re crossing the river for a one-off special at LN-CC, Dalston.
This is a private, boutique, 200 capacity basement nightclub on Shacklewell lane that’s part of a bigger complex of art, music and fashion. Unlike any other shop in London (or maybe the world!) the venue has it’s own club. It’s a blacked out, acoustically treated space with a custom DJ booth, one red light and a disco ball. There’s a high end 4 point audiophile soundsystem. Over the years its played host to the likes of Joe Clausell, Rick Wilhite, Horse Meat Disco, Daniel Baldelli, Joy Orbisson, Funkineven, Toulouse Lowtrax and it was the space where the spirit bear mezcal ensemble was recorded (with yours truly on percussion!).
The space is very rarely used so we’re most honoured to be invited for this occasion - we couldnt think of a better, more intimate spot for Kai to take us real Deep.
As if that wasn’t enough - the venue is also *BYOB*: but we’re approaching this with a twist. We’ll have a bar; fully stocked with garnishes, ice, cork screws, bottle openers. bitters, tonics, sodas - the whole 9 yards. When you arrive, you hand in your bottles to the bar - and after that our bar tender will operate a **free bar** all night. It doesn't work if you don't play by the rules, so we kindly ask everyone to chip in with beers, wines, spirits and otherwise and be creative. If you don’t drink alcohol, bring a nice soft drink.
In the unlikely event of us running out of booze - there’s an off license next door so you can always nip over and buy a tinny!
The price of a ticket is £15 - with it being BYOB we think this is pretty great value and will work out to be cheaper than a regular night out - factor in the fact that your seeing a Detroit legend in an intimate and incredible 200 capacity space and it’s really a win win.
We Start at 9 and we finish at 3.
2 decks, a rotary mixer, 1 red neon light, a disco ball and a few crates of vinyl. Dub fx.
we recommend you buy ADVANCE TICKETS to guarantee a spot. £15 and BYOB
There’ll be limited ticket sales on the night, but we’ll be able to let a few early birds in for £20 OTD, and throughout the night if space allows. We highly recommend you pick up a ticket tho - demand for this will be high.
For round 2 of our Jazz Cafe collaboration in 2018 we proudly usher in our very own 30/70 to deliver the full force of Melbourne Soul. With Vels Trio, coming from the Total Refreshment Centre stable and acclaimed songwriter Laura Misch also joining us, it’s set to be our best show to date.
