Klein Zage Drops Her Debut Single on RS INTL, ‘Prince’: a Haunting Blend of 90s Trip Hop and Transfixing Alt. Pop

After showing the world her talents as a lyrical outsider house artist, Klein Zage (real name Sage Redman) turns to Rhythm Section to enact a full-circle metamorphosis of her sound, further establishing her inimitable powers as an creative.

The first single ‘Prince’ from her forthcoming debut album Feed The Dog is out now. The song is a ghostly trace around lines of trip hop and ethereal alt pop, with respectful homages to the 90s, Portishead, and Björk. Sage’s vocas appear as delicately breathy sustained notes, hanging in the air long after they’ve been heard. Her lyrics speak of a liminal space where words are spoken and not heard, looks are exchanged but not met, and things don’t appear as they seem.

Harmonies interweave with a driving instrumental enriched by the production and lead guitar of close friend and long term collaborator Joey G ii (Joe Gillick). Dark and moody bass lines intertwine with crunchy lo fi drums and spooky artificial bells, adding to the irresistibly unreal subject matter of the song.

With the lead up to Feed The Dog iminent, do not expect any chance to rest on your laurels while listening to these songs. Each track enacts its own evolution of the Klein Zage sound, something never heard before, the music that Sage has always been quietly making behind closed doors.
